ITANAGAR, Mar 26: Reacting to the recent controversy over the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) appointees, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has blamed the Pema Khandu-led BJP government for ‘sabotaging’ the laid down rules for the appointment of the APSCW panel.
Saying the BJP government ‘is expert in subverting rules and regulations,’ the APCC in a press release on Monday also alleged that unconstitutional and illegal appointment had become the norm in the ruling regime.
‘The APSCW was constituted to investigate and enquire into unfair practices affecting women, but by damaging its original principle, the Pema-led BJP government is endorsing a culture of unlawfulness,’ the APCC alleged.
It also said the BJP government, ‘which kept the women’s reservation bill as a mirage,’ had left no stone unturned to ‘validate its political patriarchy by unlawfully meddling in a women-related establishment.’
It advised the BJP to change its ‘attitude of unlawfulness’ rather than merely chanting slogans like ‘Beti bachao, beti padhao’.
The APCC further demanded that the state government scrap the recent appointment.
‘A rightful person must be appointed as per the laid down norms. Non-APST and non-applicant outside the recommendation by the preceding APSCW team cannot be appointed,’ it said.
