ITANAGAR, Mar 26: The Wancho Students’ Union (WSU) on Monday served a 20-day ultimatum to the state government to initiate action against the executive engineer of the Kanubari PWD division.
The union said it would otherwise launch a series of agitations.
In a press briefing, the WSU claimed that despite repeated representations seeking constitution of an inquiry committee on alleged misappropriation public funds under SADA, DoTCL, DDM, NLCPR, RIDF, etc, by the executive engineer, the state government is maintaining a stoic silence.
It alleged that the EE, Mitung Mize, misused a huge amount of public money which was meant for developmental activities.
Addressing the media, WSU president Pongngoi Joham alleged that sanctioned amount worth more than Rs 9 crore had been misused.
He alleged that there was overlapping or duplicity of the schemes for the repair and maintenance work on the Longding-Kanubari road.
The union also alleged that though Rs 99 lakhs had been sanctioned for maintenance of the Arun Nagar circuit house in Jorhat, which comes under Kanubari division, no actual maintenance work has been carried out.
“Despite repeated complaints, why is the authority not doing anything?” questioned Joham, ridiculing the government’s corruption-free slogan as “mere slogan.”
The union appealed to the chief minister to direct the department concerned to constitute an inquiry committee to unearth the facts. It expressed anguish that the government has not initiated any action against the EE. The union also expressed resentment at the local representatives of Longding district.
