ITANAGAR, Mar 27: Various issues and initiatives of the election commissioners (ECs) of the Northeastern states, particularly for conducting panchayat and urban body elections, will be discussed during the ‘North East regional meet of ECs’ scheduled to be held at Tawang on 4 and 5 April.
Discussions will also be held on the prospects of holding all elections simultaneously.
The regional meet is being convened in pursuance of the decision taken during the All India conference of the state election commissioners held at Hanuwantiya, Madhya Pradesh, in November 2017.
Besides the ECs, Chairman of the Standing Committee of State Election Commissioners, R Parasuram will attend the meeting.
The State Election Commission is a constitutional authority and an autonomous body as mandated by the constitutional provisions for conducting panchayat and urban local body elections.
