PwDs, families benefit from training programmes

NAMSAI, Apr 9: Training programmes for persons with disabilities (PwD) and their families were held in Namsai and Lower Dibang Valley districts on Monday.
Organised by the Kera AA Society under the aegis of Chennai-based National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities, the programmes saw an overall participation of over 200 people in the two districts.
Separate sessions were held for persons with disabilities and their families or guardians. The programmes highlighted their rights and privileges, and the welfare schemes offered by the social justice & empowerment ministry for persons with disabilities.
Resource persons also demonstrated ways to manage problems in their day-to-day lives.
Later, an ICDS workers’ meet was organised at the Arunachal Pali Vidyapith Society in Chongkham, where 14 mentally challenged children were identified by members of Secunderabad-based National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities.
Over 150 persons participated in the workers’ meet, which focused on the revised Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
