ITANAGAR Apr 10: “The state government will give all support in creating awareness and educating the people on climate change and its effects, and ways to mitigate it,” said PHED&WS Minister Bamang Felix, addressing media persons at the Dorjee Khandu State Convention Hall here on Tuesday.
Felix was attending the inaugural function of a three-day media workshop on climate change reporting in the Himalayas, jointly organized by the Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme, the union science & technology department, the Arunachal Pradesh environment & forests department, and New Delhi-based Centre for Media Studies (CMS).
Underlining the need for creating awareness on climate change, Felix said the changes are highly visible, and that climate change is affecting the people living in the villages and rural areas, who are totally dependent on nature.
“Development is happening without any regard for the environment, which has accelerated climate change,” said Felix, and urged the media persons to write on climate change, “so that people are educated and made aware of the issue.”??PCCF Omkar Singh informed that the state government has plans to educate the farmers on commercial cultivation of orchids and reaping its benefits. ??Earlier, CMS director general PN Vasanti informed that the programme aims to “strengthen vulnerable communities to deal with climate change through media reporting and awareness.”
