Cleanliness drive cum awareness prog by Tourism Dept

BOMDILA, Apr 11: A cleanliness drive and awareness programme on tourism was held for the people of Sangti village in West Kameng district by the State Tourism Department on Wednesday.
Tourism Assistant Director, Bengia Manna Sonam, gave a brief summary of the programme.
The programme also saw the active participation of villagers and PRI members.
Resource person, Raj Basu from the Association for Conservation & Tourism, spoke of sustainable tourism, the role of the community in cleanliness and reasons for the disappearance of the black-necked crane from Sangti Valley. Merwyn Coutinho from The Batti Project highlighted the importance of keeping the village clean and how to follow sustainable solid waste management.
Students from the Assam Valley School, Tezpur who were there for a summer camp at Sangti were also involved in the cleanliness drive. The Sangti river and Gonpa were the two tourist spots chosen for the cleanliness drive. A 15-feet dummy black-necked crane made from waste materials, bamboos, and gunny sacks, was also installed.
