ITANAGAR, Apr 12: Seeking to provide a platform where citizens can place their grievances, the home department on Thursday launched the ‘public grievances redressal module’ website of the Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP), along with the department’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Attending the launch ceremony at the police headquarters (PHQ) here, Home Minister Kumar Waii lauded the police department for coming up with the creative idea to connect directly with the public through this mode of communication. He encouraged the citizens to use the digital media services to place their grievances.
Waii advised the police personnel to gain the confidence of the public by giving proper service.
“The police are a very respected and responsible institution. However, due to the misdeeds of a few personnel, the public do not respect it. Today the APP receives the highest number of RTI applications in the country, which is a bad sign,” Waii said.
He also advised the department to conduct sports meets to help the police personnel remain fit.
“The APP decided to develop these digital initiatives in order to give an opportunity to the people of Arunachal Pradesh to come closer to the police,” said DGP SBK Singh.
The members of the public will be able to lodge their grievances after verification of their email addresses, he informed.
“It is also a forum where the public can give suggestions for maintenance of law and order, and improvement of public safety and services,” Singh said.
The grievances redressal module will be visited by an officer in the district SP office daily, and it will be ensured that the grievances are redressed expeditiously, the DGP said, adding that replies will also be filed on the website.
The functioning of the module will be monitored at the PHQ under the SP (Crime).
The grievances redressal module has been developed under the supervision of SP (Planning) Manoj Kumar Meena.
Among others, IGP MK Agarwal and DIGP (HQ) Taba Tusar addressed the inaugural function.
