AALO, Apr 30: The West Siang District Students’ Union (WSDSU) has urged the district administration to carry out proper verification before issuing Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates to persons applying for such certificates.
In a representation to the deputy commissioner, WSDSU president KL Gamling on Monday said many individuals who are married to non-APST persons are applying for ST certificates for their children.
Although the union does not oppose such marriages, it is concerned that such practices would affect the APSTs in the state, Gamling said.
The union called for cancellation of all such certificates issued to non-APSTs, and stressed on strict verification by the administrative officers, panchayat leaders and recommending officers before issuing ST certificates. (DIPRO)
