GUWAHATI (Assam), May 15: Hayat Hospital here introduced a 200-watt thulium laser machine on Tuesday for patients with problems in the prostate gland.
The machine is the first of its kind in eastern India and the fifth in India.
Chief urologist of the hospital, Dr Amlan Jyoti Sarma, informed that the machine can operate on any size of prostate gland with less blood loss, under local anaesthesia, and results in speedy recovery.
“Patients with heart problems and undertaking blood thinner medicine can also be operated through this laser machine,” Dr Amlan added.
Earlier, the ceremonial opening of the machine was done by Prof Umesh Ch Sarma, Vice Chancellor, Srinranta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences.
Prof Sarma described the machine as a boon to the healthcare sector of the entire region, adding it would bring a new revolution to the department of urology.
