Habitual offender nabbed

JAIRAMPUR, May 18: A team of police led by Miao SDPO Tasi Darang recently arrested a habitual offender from the sawmill area here in Changlang district for extorting money from a teacher of the VKV here on 10 May, posing as an ULFA operative.
The accused has been identified as Thinghsam Mossang (22), a native of Longman village.
The police also recovered Rs 1,100 from Mossang, along with approximately 5.400 mlg of suspected brown sugar, and 71.530 mlg of suspected dry marijuana leaves from the possession of the accused.
A case had been registered at the police station here on 11 May before the police swung into action.
According to the complaint, an unidentified person demanded Rs 10,000 from the teacher, using a dao to threaten him, and took away Rs 5,000 from the teacher.
Mossang had earlier been arrested twice by the police here for his involvement in two different cases.
