ITANAGAR, May 23: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has strongly opposed the recent North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) entrance results and demanded immediate cancellation of the selection of Chakmas and Hajongs for admission in the NERIST.
Claiming that a number of Chakmas and Hajongs have qualified for the NEE-2018 under Mizoram seats, the AAPSU apprised its director regarding the recent result of the NEE-2018 and said that they (Chakma and Hajong) must be replaced with eligible tribal applicants from the Mizo community.
Informing that the Chakma-Hajong refugeeissue has been a burning topic in the state and the apex student body has been spearheading the refugee movement, the AAPSU opined that ‘the recent development in the institute will create psychological implications’.
“In the present juncture, absorption of the candidates from the said communities will affect the academic atmosphere of the institute”, the AAPSU added.
“The AAPSU forbids the admission of students from Chakma and Hajong communities in your institute until the vexed issue of Chakma and Hajong refugees is solved in the state”,stated a release issued by the AAPSU.
