MIAO, May 27: An inter-village sports meet was organised by the Neotan Youth Association (NYA) from 24 to 27 May at Neotan village in Miao subdivision of Changlang district as a measure to discourage the rampant drug abuse in the subdivision.
The meet was organized in response to the growing cases of drug abuse in Changlang district. The NYA, from Namphai circle, brought together around 300 youths from eight villages of the circle for the four-day multi-sports event with the theme ‘Yes to sports, no to drugs’.
Inaugurating the event, Circle Officer Namrata Bhat praised the youths for their initiative to counter the drug menace, and said such examples should be followed by all the districts to make Arunachal free from drug addiction.
Fourteen group and individual sports competitions were held, besides a traditional dance competition on the concluding day.
NYA president James Mossang and Fr Felix Anthony encouraged the youths to counter the drug menace and indulge in healthy activities.
The youths from Kaikepothar village emerged the champions. All the winners were given certificates of merit signed by the CO.
The four-day sports event was sponsored by Hal Mart and Namdapha Degree College.
