ITANAGAR, Jun 5: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday said the state’s poor performance in the recent Class X examination conducted by the CBSE was well anticipated as the ‘no fail’ system deteriorated the learning levels of the students.
“By abolishing the no-detention policy, the state government has taken a right decision as it was doomed to fail,” he said.
“To improve the education standard in the state, the state government has reintroduced the fail system, as it will motivate the students to learn and perform better,” the chief minister said during a meeting with members of the Arunachal Pradesh Teachers’ Association (APTA) here.
The APTA team met the chief minister and sought immediate review of the byelaw of the Integrated Scheme for School Education (ISSE)/Samagra Siksha Abhiyan.
Assuring to look into the demand, the chief minister advised the teachers to be sincere and punctual in discharging their duties. He sought suggestions from the association to improve the standard and quality of education in the state.
With regard to the issue of shortage of subject teachers, Pema said recruitment will soon be conducted by the APPSC to fill up the vacant posts.
He also said rationalization of teachers’ postings will be implemented for equitable distribution of teachers throughout the state.
He said textbooks are being made available with the schools in adequate numbers through direct procurement from the NCERT.
“Further, the education sector has been decentralized with a society under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner to take care and meet all the requirements at the district level,” the CM said.
To strengthen the capacity of the teachers, the CM said he will regularly monitor the teachers’ training programmes. (CMO)
