World Environment Day celebrated

PANGIN, Jun 6: Plantation drives were conducted at various locations here in Siang district to mark the World Environment Day on Tuesday.
The drives, which were jointly organized by the PHED and the district administration, saw the participation of Pangin ADC T Talom, SP Irak Bagra, HoDs, and members of the business community and women self-help groups.
PHE and WS Division EE Subat Pertin appealed to the people to cultivate eco-friendly habits like substituting plastics with natural and biodegradable products, using bamboo mugs instead of disposable glasses, and carrying their own shopping bags, rather than relying on plastic bags.
In Roing, NGOs AMYAA, RCE East Arunachal and I-Clean Roing jointly organized a plantation drive in Mayu II Colony. Drawing competitions for different categories of school and college students were also held.
In Lower Subansiri district, the day was celebrated in Hong, Hija and Tajang villages, where school children presented inter-school skits to create awareness among the locals.
DFO Koj Rinya exhorted the villagers to stop using disposable plastic cups and plates in community functions, in order to reduce the plastic menace.
A cleanliness drive was also carried out in Pange, which was followed by the declaration of Tale Wildlife Sanctuary as a plastic litter-free area.
In Kanubari, the Longding Krishi Vigyan Kendra in collaboration with the Kanubari forest division celebrated the day by organizing a plantation drive in and around the town.
Kanubari ADC Taro Mize emphasized the need of a clean and green world for a better tomorrow, while KVK senior scientist Gerik Bagra explained plastic pollution and its impact on human health, soil health and plant health.
In Aalo, the day was jointly celebrated by the Aalo forest division and the ITBP at Himveer Bird Sanctuary. Various ornamental plants and trees were planted around the sanctuary by HoDs, women, children, and ITBP personnel.
In Walong in Anjaw district, the PHE department organized a cleanliness drive to mark the day.
Deputy Commissioner M Riba called upon the people of the district to avoid plastic carry bags and other plastic products. (DIPROs)
