ITANAGAR, Jun 7: Horticulture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai has advised the officers of his department to “make efforts despite the present challenges” and develop innovative ideas to improve horticulture practices in the state.
Addressing a coordination meeting with the officers at the civil secretariat here on Thursday, Dr Chai said the state government is now more focused on the agriculture and allied departments, with the aim of doubling the farmers’ income by 2022.
“The goal should be achieved by dint of the hard work and sincerity of the officers and officials of the department,” he said.
Also present in the meeting was Horticulture Parliamentary Secretary Punji Mara, who opined that field-level staffers who have remained in the same place of posting for a long time should be reshuffled to other places and imparted training to improve their performance.
He also suggested “incorporating the provision of fencing material component with all the schemes for successful establishment of horticulture gardens.”
Horticulture Joint Director Narang Tani made a PowerPoint presentation on the department’s ongoing schemes and requirements.
Later, Dr Chai also visited the mushroom development centre near Raj Bhavan.
