ITANAGAR, Jun 15: Saying that Arunachal Pradesh has been left out of the NITI Aayog’s recently announced Composite Water Management Index (CWMI) of India due to unavailability of data, Member of Parliament Ninong Ering has urged Chief Secretary Satya Gopal to instruct the water resource department to send the available water management data to the NITI Aayog, so that it may include Arunachal Pradesh in the CWMI.
“It is learnt that the state of Arunachal Pradesh has been left out from the declared index due to unavailability of data. No further reasons have been explained for this exclusion,” Ering wrote to Gopal.
He said the index will serve as the lighthouse of water management policies in India.
“Arunachal Pradesh is a unique state with one of the highest numbers of rivers, like Kameng, Subansiri, Siang, Lohit, etc. It is very unfortunate that such an important policy driving CWMI, which was launched yesterday (Thursday), has not mentioned the state Arunachal Pradesh. This will affect our state when the government formulates any policy related to water management,” Ering said in his letter.
