Students allege exorbitant school fees

ITANAGAR, Jun 21: The All Changlang District Students’ Union(ACDSU) and the All Pangwa Students’ Union (APSU) have claimed that some government schools in the district have been charging exorbitant admission fee of Rs 1200 and handing out receipts for Rs 120 instead.
In a complaint letter to the Changlang district deputy commissioner, the ACDSU and APSU said that government school principals, headmasters and school management committees were seeking admission fee without any guidelines from the Government of India, and going against the RTE rules.
“We are well aware that all facilities are to be provided free of cost in government schools. So where is all the money going?” the unions asked.
It also claimed that, “some school heads were harassing students and warning them against making any complaint”.
Seeking strict action against such illegal activities, the unions also demanded that the school reimburse the amounts charged from the students.
They said that if the grievance of the students’ community is ignored, the unions would resort to mass democratic movement against the state.
