Press fraternity condemns theft of newspapers

ITANAGAR, Jun 29: The press fraternity of the state on Friday strongly condemned the alleged theft of copies of local dailies by an unidentified person.
On early Friday morning, an unidentified man illegally entered and stole the office copies of the Echo of Arunachal’s Friday edition from the newspaper’s office premises. Also, the copies of the Echo of Arunachal and the Independent Review meant for the local vendors went missing.
The theft, which was captured by CCTV cameras outside the office of the Echo of Arunachal, was apparently executed to seize the publication of a notice inviting tender (NIT) issued by the office of the executive engineer, capital division B, PWD (vide No CDB/NIT/2018-19) from the contractors concerned. The same NIT was already uploaded on the official website of the directorate of information & public relations.
The Echo of Arunachal has lodged an FIR at the Itanagar police station against the unidentified person, and the press fraternity has requested the police department and the state government to take strict action against the culprit(s), and, if he is found to be associated with any registered firm, to blacklist the firm, so that others may refrain from resorting to such criminal activity.
The press fraternity also appealed to the people – especially civil work contractors – to refrain from such criminal activities and raise their voice against practices which undermine the core democratic values of equal rights and equal opportunity.
