ROING, Jul 19: As many as 600 students along with teaching staff benefited from awareness programmes on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, conducted by the Lower Dibang Valley District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) at various government schools of the district recently.
Probation Officer Kange Tayeng and Napi Protection Officer Meto delivered talks on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, focusing on the rights and protection of children, categories of children (child in conflict with law, and child in need of care and protection), the role of the Juvenile Justice Board, the Child Welfare Committee, and the Special Police Juvenile Unit.
Tokgul Badu (counsellor) and Jomi Mimi highlighted the POCSO Act, 2012. Children were also familiarized with the helpline number and the role of the DCPU.
The secondary schools in Meka, Jia and Abali, and the middle schools in Yibuk-Rayang and Iduli were covered under the awareness programme. (DIPRO)
