NAMSAI, Jul 23: Farmers from Alubari, Gunanagar and Chakma-I, II and III villages attended a weeklong training programme on scientific beekeeping, which concluded at the KVK here on Monday.
The programme was organized by Pasighat-based College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF) in collaboration with the Namsai KVK.
Addressing the trainees, principal scientist from Barapani (Meghalaya)-based ICAR RC for NE Region, Dr Tanmay Samajdar highlighted the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding doubling of farmers’ income by 2022, and the activities conducted by the ICAR in this regard.
He emphasized the importance of beekeeping in Namsai district as a component for doubling farmers’ income.
Namsai ADF SK Jawal encouraged the farmers to adopt scientific beekeeping to generate more income, while plant protection SMS Toge Riba urged them to adopt scientific beekeeping to increase crop production.
At the end of the session, the farmers were shown the demonstration units of the KVK, where they practically witnessed the integration of beekeeping with orchard of lemon, litchi, ber apple and guava.
