TOON, Jul 29: Transport Parliamentary Secretary Likha Saaya inaugurated the government middle school here in Lower Subansiri district on Saturday, following the upgrading of the school from primary level.
The inauguration was followed by a development meeting with former panchayat members, gaon burahs, government officials and others, during which Saaya stressed on collaboration between the district administration, public leaders and stakeholders.
Underscoring the significance of community participation in the development process, the PS said community involvement would assist in creation of new policies critical to the development of the area.
Highlighting the development initiatives brought in during his two-term tenure as Yachuli MLA, Saaya said he “fought against all odds” to bring the divisional commissioner’s office, establish the ADC, PWD and SC offices, and construct the stadium, guest house, etc, in the area.
He also heard the views, suggestions and grievances put forward by former panchayat members for political and economic development of the area.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by the school development committee, the PS asked the Lower Subansiri DDSE to address the demand for construction of boundary wall and additional classrooms for Classes 6 and 7 using his quota under the Chief Minister’s Samast Shiksha Yojana, and for other basic requirements of the school.
He also assured to provide fund for construction of a CC pavement road from Toon to Government College, Yachuli, very soon.
DDSE Hibu Tama raised concern over the degrading quality of education due to absent and fading teacher-student relationship, and urged everyone to report unprofessional behaviour, if detected, to his office.
Saying that many government-run schools are in defunct shape due to low enrollment of students, he called for reviving such schools through triangular efforts from the community, political and administrative levels.
