NAHARLAGUN, Aug 4: The PHE&WS department along with local residents conducted a cleanliness drive at Model village here on Saturday.
A large number of people from the village, led by the gaon burah, cleaned up the garbage on village road and the highway during the programme.
The villagers said they would continue such activities in various parts of the village at regular intervals to maintain the cleanliness of the village.
A ‘Swachh Bharat awareness campaign-cum-social service’ campaign was organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Council (APCRCC) in various parts of the state on Saturday.
In Yupia, the Papum Pare District Christian Revival Church Council (DCRCC) took out a ‘swachh awareness procession’ from Yupia CRC to the DC staff quarters’ line.
The rally was flagged off by Papum Pare DC Dr Joram Beda, and as many as 400 people including DCRCC office bearers, government officials and public leaders participated in it.
A social service was also conducted at the government quarters’ line in Yupia, the DC office, and the roadsides.
Similar programmes were conducted by the district units of the APCRCC in Sagalee (Papum Pare), Sangram (Kurung Kumey), Palin (Kra Daadi), Likabali (Lower Siang), Roing (Lower Dibang Valley), and Daporijo (Upper Subansiri), which saw the participation of large numbers of people.
Essay writing and drawing competitions on cleanliness were also organized in various districts, APCRCC state coordinator for Swachh Bharat Mission, Tad Akin stated in a release.
