BJP rejects APCC allegation

LONGDING, Aug 26: The Longding-Pumao mandal of the BJP on Sunday rejected the Arunachal Pradesh Committee’s (APCC) allegation that the Longding-Pumao MLA attended an official programme at Pumao during the seven-day state mourning following the death of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
“A girls’ hostel was proposed to be inaugurated on 17 August, which was later postponed to 20 August. The programme on 20 August, too, was cancelled, and a condolence meeting was held instead to mourn the death of Vajpayee,” the BJP mandal clarified in a press release.
“Neither were there ribbon cutting nor formal reception, music and any sort of entertainment. It was quite and somber,” it said.
“In fact, the hostel has been named after Vajpayee (Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial Girls’ Hostel) as a mark of respect to the departed leader,” the release added.
It described the APCC’s allegation as “totally baseless, devoid of truth, and an attempt to tarnish somebody’s hard-earned image.”
