ITANAGAR, Sep 14: Achom Degio has been selected for the Indian Junior Women’s National Football team that will travel to Thimphu, Bhutan, to participate in the SAFF U-18 Women’s Football Championship, to be held from September 27.
Degio is the second woman footballer from the state, after Techi Amin, to represent the country abroad.
The football fraternity of the state has expressed elation over her selection in the final squad.
“Her achievement will definitely motivate many girls that their dream of becoming good players can be accomplished through hard work,” Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) secretary Kipa Ajay said.
He congratulated Kipa Takum and Kipa Bharat – the chairman and coach of the Capital Complex Football Club, where Achom plays her professional football – and lauded their work for the betterment of women’s football in the state.
“We are glad that the efforts put by our club, especially Kipa Bharat, the head coach of CCFC, started to bear fruits,” said Takum.
He expressed hope that the government as well as the corporate houses of the state would extend help to the APFA and the football clubs to achieve more such feats.
Achom is the daughter of Takyang Degio and Mejin Degio, and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Physical Education at LNIPE (NERC), Guwahati.
