ITANAGAR, Sep 18: The person involved in the hit-and-run death of one Takhe Rachi in Gohpur Tinali area was apprehended by the capital police on Tuesday evening.
The alleged culprit has been identified as Nabam Ajay, aged about 19-20 years, informed Superintendent of Police M Harsha Vardhan.
“Since the incident, he had left his usual place of stay, and was found in Model Village, Naharlagun,” the SP informed.
On 7 September, an unidentified Tempo hit Rachi in Gohpur Tinali area, at around 6:40 pm. While onlookers came to help her, the Tempo fled the scene of the incident. Rachi was rushed to the hospital but was declared ‘brought dead’.
Several organisations of the capital complex and Lower Subansiri district took out a candlelight march here on the evening of 13 September, seeking immediate arrest of the Tempo driver.
“The arrest was a result of thorough and painstaking investigation. It was a blind case where the only clue was that the offending vehicle is a Tempo. The police team interrogated over 50 persons to nab the accused,” Vardhan said.
The police team was led by Itanagar SDPO Kamdam Sikom, and included Inspector Karbom Tao and SIs RK Jha and AK Singh.
