ITANAGAR, Sep 18: The state tourism department launched its cleanliness campaign/tourism promotion programme, ‘Paryatan Parv/Swachchta Pakhwada’ at Itafort on Monday.
“The Centre has launched the programme all over the country in order to create cleanliness in all the important tourist destinations and promote tourism,” said State Tourism Director Kanto Danggen.
Danggen appealed to the participants to imbibe the sense of responsibility to make the state garbage-free. He also administered the oath of affirmation on cleanliness to the participants.
Research Director Batem Pertin appealed to every stakeholder to help in keeping the state’s important monuments clean.
Expressing serious concern over the growing drug menace, Pertin appealed to the people to fight against the menace.
“We have to educate the people from time to time and create awareness about its ill effects,” he said.
Informing that school- and college-going children are more vulnerable to drug abuse, he appealed to every individual to start campaigning against drugs, starting from their own households.
Assistant Tourism Director Bengia Manna Sonam said the department would conduct mass cleanliness drives at all the important tourist spots, including Tawang Monastery, Akashi Ganga, Malinithan, Parshuram Kund, the Golden Pagoda, and rivers like the Siang and the Kameng.
“Training for women stakeholders on rural tourism and homestay would also be part of the programme,” she added.
Royal Arunachal Riders (RAR) vice-president Biki Punung, TIO Duyir Yedi, and APTOA president John Panye also spoke on the occasion, in the presence of hundreds of participants from the tourism directorate and the research department, tour operators, and Hunar se Rozgar and Incredible India trainees.
Earlier, about 20 Bullet riders from RAR took out a bike rally themed ‘Ride for tourism’ and ‘Ride for swachhta’ from Ganga Lake to Itafort.
