Police crack murder case, apprehend three juveniles

ITANAGAR, Sep 19: Three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder case of a 65-year-old farm labourer Aisha Bano, which took place in the intervening night of 4 – 5 September on the outskirts of Pachin area in the agricultural fields.
The deceased Aisha Bano’s husband, Ramjan Ali also suffered grievous injuries during the attack.
A police team consisting of Deputy Superintendent of Police Make Bui, SDPO Naharlagun, Sub Inspector, Sushant S Jha under the supervision of SP Capital, M Harsha Vardhan apprehended the trio, all of whom are juveniles, on Wednesday.
They are aged between 14 to 17 years.
Of the three, two were apprehended from various locations in the township area, and the third was arrested from Lichi village which is a border village between Lower Subansiri and Papum Pare districts.
The SP Capital informed that the trio has admitted to the crime and as per the investigation, the juveniles have committed the crime with an intention to commit robbery.
Reportedly, the trio had attacked the old couple in a drunken state.
Speaking to reporters, the SP said that while the three are juveniles, there is provision for juveniles of age 16 and above to be tried as adults for heinous crimes, and steps would be taken accordingly for their crime.
“The police had ascertained identity of the apprehended juveniles after an extensive process involving examination of multiple witnesses, rounding up of habitual offenders, electronic surveillance and assimilation of human intelligence on ground level,” the SP informed.
He further said, “It was a completely blind case with absolutely no clue. Police undertook various measures like meetings even in Lakhimpur district, human intelligence gathering, technical surveillance of suspects, extensive past records checking to gather bits and pieces of information. It was only through concerted efforts of investigation team of SDPO Make Bui and SI Sushant Jha that all the bits and pieces were put together to reach the culprit.”
