KHENEWA, Sep 23: A field demonstration on potato cultivation, under ATMA programme, was conducted here in East Kameng district on 22 September by the agriculture department.
Khenewa ADO Joymoni Beyong educated the farmers on potato cultivation practice, right from field preparation to harvesting. She said the important inter-cultural operation, called “earthing up,” should be done after 15-20 days of potato plantation.
“Before potato showing in the field, seed and soil treatment with suitable fungicides and insecticides is a must,” she added.
From the last week of September to the first week of October is the right time for potato cultivation, and it grows well even as an off-season tuber in Chayang Tajo, Lada, and Pakke-Kessang.
