ZIRO, Sep 28: ‘Ziro Valley Marathon’ was organized here on Friday, covering 15 kms across the traditional villages of the area.
The theme of the marathon was ‘No money culture in elections’, and it was also aimed at creating awareness against drug abuse.
The event was flagged off at 6:30 am by the general secretary of the Apatani GB Association, Tilling Duri, from Diibo football ground, near the venue of the Ziro Festival of Music (ZFM).
The marathon was the brainchild of DNGC Associate Professor Dr Kago Gambo, who is himself a champion senior marathoner. He was supported by a group of like-minded volunteers spearheaded by retired IAF wing commander Gyati Kago.
The event basically sought to create awareness against promotion of the money culture during the election which is round the corner, and to urge the people of Ziro to choose the right candidate without selling their votes.
Ten-year-old Kago Mobin was the youngest to complete the marathon, and Kago Tabyo was the senior most to do the same.
