ITANAGAR, Oct 4: Taking the state’s representation in the world of poetry to the next level, Arunachalee poet and author of Dear Bohemian Man, Subi Taba, was the only Indian poet among a core group of poets from Australia, New Zealand, and USA to attend the Rhodes Poetry Retreat 2018 held recently at Monolithos in Rhodes Island, Greece.
The poetry and writing workshop is held every year and facilitated by Luka Lesson, a spoken word and rap artist of Greek heritage from Australia and an Australian Poetry Slam champion.
The event is designed to give poets from all around the world space and opportunity to soak up the Greek culture, learn the history of the ancient western medieval civilizations, and visit ancient archaeological sites for digging up lyrical fossils for writing.
The weeklong workshop discussed Greek literature, performance techniques, and role of poetry in society and culture.
Taba wrote and performed a poem titled ‘Meetings and departures’ – inspired by Homer’s poem Odyssey – at the end of the workshop, which was concluded with poetry performances by all the participating poets.
