ITANAGAR, Oct 7: The Arunachal Press Club (APC), the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists, and the Arunachal Electronic Media Association will celebrate National Press Day (NPD) this year in the state capital. The decision was taken following a meeting held at the APC on Saturday.
APC President Chopa Cheda informed that the venue had to be changed from Namsai to Itanagar in view of logistical issues.
“During our last NPD celebration, we had announced to organize the 2018 NPD in Namsai.
The main motive behind it was to provide a platform to the people of eastern Arunachal to directly interact with the press fraternity of the state, because we often hear complaints that the state’s media is capital-centric. However, the Bogibeel bridge is not open for traffic and in all probability will be open only after December. Therefore, considering the logistic issues, we had to cancel it,” said Cheda.
This year, the prestigious chief minister’s running trophy debate competition has been divided into two zones to involve more students.
“Debate competitions will be conducted at two venues, ie, Itanagar, for the western zone, and either Namsai or Pasighat for the eastern zone. We will invite as many colleges and universities as possible for this event. The winners and runners-up from these two competitions will slog it out on 16 November for the coveted trophy. All the logistic support to the participant teams will be provided by the organizer,” said the APC president.
The meeting also selected APC General Secretary Tanom Jerang as the debate secretary to organise the debate competition, and Taba Ajum as chairman of the NPD celebration.
