ZIRO, Oct 13: The State Tobacco Control Cell (STCC) kicked off its state-wide anti-tobacco awareness campaign under the National Tobacco Control programme at Hapoli in Lower Subansiri district on Friday.
Apart from performance by popular rock band ‘Royal Flush’, the brand ambassador of the campaign, the Abyss Institute of Sciences left the crowd with an encouraging and inspiring message to quit tobacco through their short plays.
Audio-visual messages with warnings about the ill effects of tobacco usage were screened for the public by the District Tobacco Control Cell.
NTCP State Programme Officer Dr Biman Natung highlighted the prevalence of tobacco consumption, including passive smoking and its destructive effects on the user’s body.
The campaign will be conducted in all the 13 districts, where the NTCP has been implemented.
The campaign will proceed to Daporijo, Aalo, Yingkiong, Roing, Pasighat, Tezu, Changlang, Khonsa, Seppa, Bomdila, Tawang and Papum Pare from 12 October onwards,” informed Dr Natung.
Organized in collaboration with Voluntary Health Association of Arunachal Pradesh (VHAAP), the campaign will focus on the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS-2), 2016-17.
