NAHARLAGUN, Nov 18: The legal metrology & consumer affairs (LMCA) department in collaboration with the Guwahati regional office (RO) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized an awareness programme on standardization of products related to BIS at the department’s conference hall here on Friday.
BIS RO Director Amit Roy highlighted the importance of product standardization with reference to Indian standards like ISI, ISO and Hallmark. He also cleared doubts relating to the enforcement of the provisions of the BIS Act.
LMCA Controller Hoktum Ori, DCLM Daro Marbom, RWD EE Rheli Kato and Food & Civil Supplies Deputy Director Tojir Kadu also spoke.
Later, a separate awareness programme was arranged for the jewellers of Itanagar and Naharlagun.
The BIS regional director asked them to ensure early registration under the Hallmark scheme as it likely to be made mandatory under the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016.
Representatives from various government and private agencies, as well as LMCA officers from the districts participated in the programme.
