GUWAHATI, Nov 18: A team of government officers from Arunachal Pradesh, including WCD Commissioner Gamli Padu and WCD Director TP Loyi, along with Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Member Secretary Yame Higio and representatives of child care institutions (CCI) attended the state consultation meet for the Northeast states on ‘Safety of children and minimum standards of care in CCIs’ held here in Assam on Sunday.
The meet was organized by the Guwahati High Court Juvenile Justice Committee, in collaboration with the Assam State Child Protection Society, with the support of the UNICEF.
Loyi made a PowerPoint presentation on the theme, with reference to Arunachal Pradesh.
Earlier, Gauhati High Court Chief Justice AS Bopanna, who chaired the meet, said ensuring the safety and right environment for children under the CCIs is the responsibility of the state.
Bopanna stressed on the need for a child-friendly atmosphere in all the child care institutions.
Gauhati HC Juvenile Justice Committee Member Secretary Rumi Kumari Phukan urged the state governments of the region to take concrete steps to implement the JJ Act, 2015, properly and effectively.
The state consultation meet was organized prior to the fourth national round-table conference scheduled to be held on 1 December at New Delhi.
Among others, the chairmen of the juvenile justice committees of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram, and senior judicial officers of Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram attended the consultation meet.
