ITANAGAR, Nov 23: A series of awareness programmes on sanitation was conducted by a team comprising members of the Palin PHE&WS division and the Palin and Tali Area Students’ Union (ATASU) at 29 remote villages in Kra Daadi district from 9 to 19 November as part of the World Toilet Day celebration.
The campaign was aimed at spreading the message of Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), and to create awareness on the impact of unsanitary toilets and unhygienic surroundings on the health and hygiene of adults, infants and schoolchildren.
Palin PHE&WS Division EE Likha Tekhi advised the villagers to adopt basic hygiene practices like washing hands with soap before and after food, and after defecation, to prevent diseases.
Noting the presence of solid non-perishable wastes, he advised the people to dispose of them through solid and liquid waste management components which would be provided to each gram panchayat during the year.
ATASU president Tatung Tayum urged all to stop their animals from roaming freely in the village, and advised the people to avail the benefits of the schemes of the PHE&WS department.
The team also surveyed various ongoing projects, and the ATASU president set into operation the recently completed water supply system in Nyobia village on 17 November, in the presence of the departmental team, GBs and former PRI members of the village.
