Capital police recover stolen ornaments worth Rs 90 lakhs

ITANAGAR, Nov 25: In a major breakthrough, the capital police recovered local ornaments worth Rs 90 lakhs from one Tapum Godak on Saturday evening.
Godak (25) had been arrested by a team of Naharlagun police, comprising SI SS Jha and SI D Pakam, under the supervision of Capital SP M Harsha Vardhan and SDPO Make Bui, on the night of 15 November, after the police had received multiple complaints of thefts of local ornaments and beads by person(s) using the same modus operandi.
The SP informed that, following a series of interrogation, the accused finally led the police team to the stolen ornaments. As per the complaints filed, the stolen ornaments are estimated to be worth nearly Rs 90 lakhs.
The accused is allegedly a skilled burglar, and had been carrying out burglaries with help from skilled accomplices with special equipments, after making the victims unconscious.
“Godak is a habitual offender, and belongs to Kamle district. He has multiple cases of jewel theft registered and charge-sheeted against him at Raga and Daporijo police stations,” the SP said.
He said the police would soon arrest the accomplice, who is believed to be from Assam.
