GUWAHATI, Nov 27: Balo Yalam and Charu Pesi clinched a silver medal each in the girls’ 49 kg and boys’ 61 kg category, respectively, in the 64th National School Games (NSG) Weightlifting here in Assam on Tuesday.
Although Yalam and her competitor from Maharashtra had lifted the equal weight of 129 kg in total, the latter was declared the winner as per the rule of achieving the target first.
According to the Indian Weightlifting Federation rule, the athlete who achieves the target first is declared the winner.
Yalam lifted 55 kgs in snatch and 74 kgs in clean & jerk.
Pesi lifted 90 kgs in snatch and 120 kgs in clean & jerk for a total of 210 kgs.
Both Neelam Sopin and Sandiya Gungli missed medals by finishing fourth in the boys’ 49 kg and girls’ 40-45 kg category, respectively.
