DC asks Childline to conduct progs on child issues

ITANAGAR, Nov 27: Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan has directed Childline Itanagar to compile monthly calendar events for conducting legal awareness programmes on child issues at all the schools in the capital complex.
The DC gave the directive during a review meeting of the Child Welfare Committee, Itanagar Capital Complex (CWC-ICC), and the Childline advisory board which he chaired here on Tuesday.
Dhawan also asked Childline Itanagar to install a drop box to receive complaints from children, and instructed the labour officer to strictly deal with cases of child labour.
Dhawan informed that he would take up with the Itanagar DDSE the matter of opening child literacy clubs, under the legal services authority, in various government higher secondary schools.
CWC-ICC chairperson Kani Nada Maling highlighted cases received by the CWC during her tenure. She expressed concern over the increasing number of sexual abuse cases, and enumerated the challenges faced by the committee while dealing with cases of children in need of care and protection.
Deputy Director A Lowangcha presented details of the activities of the district child protection unit, and Childline coordinator Elizabeth N Tangjang spoke about the activities of Childline Itanagar.
DMO Dr Subu Tasso Kampu, DSP (HQ) TK Nath, Labour Officer Gyamar Tajik, members of the Papum Pare district legal services authority, the APSLSA and Childline Itanagar, along with the superintendent of the Oju Welfare Association’s Sishu Bhawan attended the meeting. (DIPRO)
