RONO HILLS, Nov 27: The anthropology department of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) organized the 6th commemorative lecture on CVF Haimendorf, under the chairmanship of RGU Vice Chancellor (in-charge) Prof PK Panigrahi, here on 22 November.
In his inaugural address, former Sikkim University VC Prof TB Subba, who currently teaches in the NEHU’s anthropology department, spoke about several pioneer anthropologists, and about the achievements of Haimendorf.
Prof Subba emphasized the need to protect the tribal populations, and spoke about the policies in relation to tribal rights. He cited examples based on religion, land and property rights of the tribal populations in India, and also spoke about the inner-line permit system in different parts of India.
Former RGU VC Prof Tamo Mibang, Registrar Prof Tomo Riba, Assistant Anthropology Professor Radhe Amung and Anthropology HoD Prof H Vokendro Singh also attended the programme.
