Sona responds to APCC’s remark

ITANAGAR, Dec 5: Mechuka MLA Pasang Dorjee Sona on Wednesday reacted against the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC)’s press statement alleging him of keeping mum on the Mechuka incident.
Sona, while stating that he has been in constant touch with the victims’ families, said that he had visited the victims and their families at Guwahati and is trying to extend all possible help.
The APCC on Tuesday had criticized Sona for remaining silent on the incident, stating that ‘he might be shielding the culprits.’
Telling the APCC to “do some homework” before issuing such statements, Sona said that he had immediately reacted and given a press statement condemning the incident.
Suggesting the APCC not to politicize the issue, he said that “the incident was really unfortunate and whoever is at fault should be taken to task,” adding, “the law enforcing authority is working hard on to nab all the culprits.”
Regarding transfer of the case from Mechuka to Itanagar for the convenience of victims’ families, Sona clarified that since it is a judicial matter it cannot be done directly at officer’s level.
Three youths Kiogi Gida Gagung, Papu Dolo and Tony Sonam were thrashed by unidentified people in the intervening night of November 25 and 26 when they were jamming on the closure of the day Adventure@Mechuka festival.
Currently, the victims are undergoing medical treatment at Guwahati.
