NAMSAI, Dec 6: The Khelo India U-16 (boys and girls) tournament 2018-’19 for Namsai district was declared open by MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom at the APIL ground here on Wednesday.
The tournament will witness 170 boys and girls from various parts of the district competing in football, volleyball, badminton, athletic and cycling events.
Speaking on the occasion, Namchoom highlighted the sports programmes of the state and central governments for the betterment of youths.
Deputy Commissioner Tapasya Raghav advised the participants to stay away from drugs and other harmful substances, and encouraged them to put their energy to constructive purposes. DSO R Mihu briefed the gathering on the aims and objectives of the union sports & youth affairs ministry’s Khelo India programme.
The tournament is being organised by the sports department in collaboration with the Namsai district administration. It will concluded on 13 December.
