SALARI, Dec 6: World Soil Health Day was jointly observed by the West Kameng Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Dirang-based NRC on Yak (NRCY) with a programme at the farmers’ training centre here on Wednesday.
During the programme, 40 participants, including farmers, were educated on the appropriate method of soil sample collection, and were shown a demonstration by a team of experts on obtaining appropriate results from the laboratory.
Soil health cards were later distributed to the farmers, and their feedback taken. Agricultural tools were also distributed to the farmers by the district’s Agriculture Deputy Director (Training) SK Srivastava.
KVK Head Dr ND Singh apprised the farmers of the importance of soil testing and soil health card, while NRCY Director (in-charge) Dr Vijay Paul spoke on soil health improvement through judicious use of micro and macro nutrient supplements.
Besides farmwomen, officers from the KVK, and scientists also attended the programme.
