ITANAGAR, Dec 16: Participating in her maiden Youth National Weightlifting Championship, currently underway in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Sandiya Gungli clinched a bronze medal in the 40 kg weight category.
The 14-year-old from Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) lifted 40 kgs in snatch and 52 kgs in clean and jerk for a total of 92 kgs.
She is currently training under coach Piyainu Chanu.
Shankar Lapung and Tadar Agung failed to make podium finishes with 4th and 5th positions, respectively, in the boys’ below 55 kg category.
