NAMDANG, Dec 23: Personnel of the Assam Rifles (AR) and the police in Margherita apprehended two over-ground workers (OGW) of the NSCN from here in Changlang district on 22 and 23 December, and recovered explosives from their possession.
The OGWs, identified as Ravi Kumar Paswan (29), a resident of Longpha Basti in Changlang district, and Kena Pangtok (19), a resident of Phangsum Basti, Changlang, were apprehended during a joint operation of the police and the AR, the Kohima-based defence PRO informed.
One motorcycle and two mobile phones were immediately recovered from the OGWs.
“However, on further investigation, it emerged that the duo had been tasked by the proscribed outfit to hide high explosives in a forest near Namdang,” the PRO said.
A search was carried out, “and six slabs of trinitrotoluene (TNT), 800 grams of gunpowder, 600 grams of RDX, four metres of safety fuse, and three detonators were found,” it said.
The OGWs were handed over to the police station in Margherita, where an FIR under Section UP (A) 10/12 was lodged, it said.
