Tingkhatra Memorial tournament begins

KANUBARI, Jan 9: The district level Newlai Tingkhatra Memorial Football and Volleyball Cup tournament was kicked off amida mammoth gathering of sports lovers at the general ground here in Longding district on Wednesday.
Around 30 volleyball and 34 football teams are participating in the tournament, being organized by the Wancho Students’ Union (WSU) as a tribute to former minister late Newlai Tingkhatra.
Declaring the tournament open, Major Anuj Mahan spoke on the benefit of games and sports in building healthy body and sound mind.
“Late Tingkhatra’s contribution will always be inspiration for the Wancho community in particular and state in general. The tournament meant for promotion of sports activities among the youth is the greatest homage to him,” said former minister Nokchong Boham.
Chief of Kanubari, Towang Wangham also attended the inaugural function.
Recalling the contributions of late Newlai Tingkhatra, the dignitaries said, Tingkhatra, who always believed in selfless service, will always be remembered for his yeoman service and development-oriented endeavours.
