ITANAGAR, Jan 11: Arunachal continued their impressive performance in weightlifting in the Khelo India Youth Games, currently underway in Pune, Maha-rashtra, by bagging one silver medal on Friday.
The medal was won by Anai Wangsu in the girls’ U-17 and below 55 kg bodyweight category.
She lifted 60 kgs in snatch and 81 kgs in clean & jerk for a total of 141 kgs.
With the addition of the medal, the state’s medal count rose to eight from an overnight tally of seven, Sports Director Tadar Appa informed.
Posen Kongkang and P Sakhenbi Devi failed to make it to the podium, finishing in fifth and sixth positions in their respective age and bodyweight category.
Sakhenbi Devi lifted 75 kgs in snatch and 96 kgs in clean & jerk in the girls’ U-21 and 59 kg bodyweight category, while Posen could lift 58 kgs in snatch and 75 kgs in clean & jerk for a total of 133 kgs in the girls’ U-17 and 59 kg bodyweight category.
In Judo, Silom Tesia lost to her opponent from Manipur in the first round.
Laa Tukum will meet Gandham Pranav Rao of Telangana in the boys’ U-17 badminton semifinal on Saturday.
He beat Manav Choudhury of Haryana in straight 21-10 and 21-4 sets in the quarterfinal.
Achick Wangsa finished 10th in the girls’ U-17 shot put, and Nabam Deram bowed out of the first round (heat round) of the boys’ U-17 400 m race.
