Two apprehended for hunting and selling wildlife

AALO, Jan 11: A team of forest officials led by West Siang DFO Abhinav Kumar arrested two men and seized a hunted Indian civet from their possession during a raid on a roadside shop near Hirgo village in Shi-Yomi district.
The arrested persons have been identified as Tatu Kiri and Sunil Kiri. A case has been filed in the court of the chief judicial magistrate here against the perpetrators under the Wildlife Protection Act, reports DIPRO.
Before the arrests were made, Mechukha RFO Marbom Sora and his team of officials posed as customers at the shop, located on the right side of Siko Dido waterfall, on the way to Mechukha.
After an hour’s wait, they saw a group of local people coming to the shop – one of them carrying a large Indian civet hidden inside a basket.
The team pounced and caught the culprit and the shop’s owner red-handed.
It has been reported that the roadside shop, owned by Tatu Kiri, is often used for selling wildlife meat.
