Centre allocates 30 mw power to Arunachal

NEW DELHI, Jan 21: The union power ministry has decided to allocate 30 mw power, surrendered by the Punjab government, to Arunachal Pradesh from the Unchahar thermal power plant for three months, from 1 February to 30 April.
Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh Power Minister Tamiyo Taga had written to union MoS for Power RK Singh to increase the power generating capacity of the Bongaigaon (Assam) thermal power plant by allocating the full coal quota to the plant, so that the state could draw electricity from it.
Taga had written the letter in view of the proposed shutdown of the Ranganadi hydroelectric project (RHEP) in Arunachal Pradesh from 1 February to 30 April for annual maintenance, which will lead to acute power shortage in the state.
Taga said the RHEP alone meets 40-50% power requirement of the state.
The state government had also deputed Power Commissioner GS Meena and SO & PSC SE N Perme to New Delhi to pursue the matter with the power ministry.
