AALO, Jan 24: Along with the rest of the nation, the West Siang ICDS celebrated National Girl Child Day with the theme ‘Empowering girls for a better tomorrow’ at Gumin Kiin here on Thursday.
Attending the programme, West Siang DC Swetika Sachan said girl children deserve special attention in the society, and stressed that “all flagships programmes of the central and state governments should reach every girl child.”
Dr Nyage Geyi called for reducing the gender gap, and informed that sex determination is a “gross punishable offence.”
DDICDS in-charge B Koyu also spoke.
Earlier, school children and women took out a procession carrying posters, banners and slogans.
A drama titled ‘Hum komal jarur hain lekin kamjor nahin’, distribution of prizes to couples who underwent tubectomies after bearing only a girl child, distribution of birth certificates to girls, etc, were the other activities of the programme. (DIPRO)
