ITANAGAR/NAMSAI, Jan 24: A total of 194 returning officers (RO) and assistant returning officers (ARO) of the state underwent the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) certification training programmes which were held simultaneously at Itanagar and Namsai.
The officers were trained by 16 national level master trainers deputed by the ECI during the training programme, which concluded on Thursday.
Addressing the morning session of the last day’s training in Namsai, CEO Kaling Tayeng urged the officers to discharge their duties with sincerity to ensure free and fair elections.
“Proper training should be imparted to the polling officials in the districts, and at least five rounds of training should be conducted before they move for election duty, so that no mistakes are made by the polling teams,” he said.
In the evening, Tayeng attended the training programme at the DK convention hall in Itanagar, and said “the deputy commissioners must visit and check the actual condition of each polling station prior to elections.”
“Sector officers, when appointed, should also be directed to visit their respective polling stations in person prior to polls to see the ground conditions,” he added.
